Reduce Flooding - Improve Habitat - Enhance Recreation

Planning and Design

The project is located within Greenfield’s Konkel Park. Work includes widening the creek, building a pond, and extensive storm sewer improvements that will increase water storage capacity, improve water quality and reduce flooding. The main channel, surrounding wetlands, and pond will be planted with native vegetation, including trees, shrubs, wetland and upland grasses and wild flowers that will provide food and shelter for birds. The stream will be enhanced with features that provide habitat for fish and amphibians including sunfish, bluegill, bass, frogs and turtles. Paths and a boardwalk will allow park users access the stream, pond and wetland. Future plans include adding a fishing pier and a picnic shelter overlooking the pond.
